Sara Schumacher, CFRE
Executive Director
Sara Schumacher is an accomplished Executive Director with more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit healthcare philanthropy, foundation management, and organizational leadership. Driven by a strong passion for service, community engagement, and social impact, she has led comprehensive fundraising initiatives that have raised millions of dollars, as well as built grantmaking programs that improve the health and well‑being of our communities across the region.
In her role, Sara oversees the strategic and operational management of the Washington Greene Health Foundation, aligning philanthropic investments with organizational priorities while serving as a trusted community connector. She successfully led the conversion and transition of the Washington Health System Foundation—from a supporting organization—to the Washington Greene Health Foundation, an independent public charity. This transformation significantly expanded the foundation’s ability to impact the health and well‑being of residents throughout Washington and Greene counties.
Sara brings deep expertise in donor cultivation and stewardship, foundation governance, grantmaking strategy, legacy giving, and the implementation of effective, sustainable philanthropic approaches. She is highly skilled in building strategic partnerships and cross‑sector collaborations that advance mission‑driven outcomes of community impact. She holds an undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an MBA from Waynesburg University, and is a Malcolm Baldrige Executive Fellow, a nationally recognized leadership development program focused on organizational excellence.
Outside of work, Sara enjoys cheering on her daughters, Taylor and Quinn, in their respective interests, spending time with family and friends, riding sport utility vehicles with her husband, Billy, and volunteering with nonprofit organizations and meaningful community initiatives.
